Fall: harvest and home decor
A quick poem prompt I do with kids; give it a try no matter your age. It’s fun:
My fall and winter self
I am hot cider’y and cocoa, pumpkin everything, fuzzy blankets and (in this house, imaginary) cracking fire places. I was made for this season. My people are from Minnesota.
I am still-warm pies and melting ice cream, leaves blowing all over the sidewalk.
I am late season, cool nights, cold frame.
Don’t worry, writing not required to participate in my fall frenzy. This post isn’t going to get all nutmeg and cinnamon on you. I’m actually enjoying the shift into fall incarnated through a re-appropriation of our big, long living room space.
It’s not fall around here until I rearrange the whole house.
For most people this happens in spring, but fall is my time of year, likely for all the nesting potential that lies ahead. Forget the gourds (for a moment), my fall means I’m excited about how I’ve created two rooms out of one and, in the process, successfully hidden our television.
As all of you surely know, sometimes we have to compromise. My J wanted a TV proper to watch movies on a bigger screen. I gathered an army of typewriters, my friend’s art and even a washboard to “distract and delight”, see page 29 in my book for further study.
What signals fall around your house?

Fall in Southeast Idaho is wind...lot's of wind...not the best place to be to enjoy the fall...
I really miss my southern Indiana roots in the fall! I still have the yummy fall foods here in Idaho. I have Yellowstone Bear World just 10 minutes away to enjoy the hibernation of the bears. The leaves do change, but there are not a lot of trees that have leaves to change here. And the chance for snowy conditions...We have already had snow on the ground the first week in October. It did not stay but still was NOT something I would like to enjoy during the fall.
Life under the Ligurian sun (Italy) in Autumn means puttin down olive nets, harvesting grapes, putting up the last jars of spiced autmn jam(figs and quinces). It means mulching around the roses and planting garlic for Spring harvest. Means shelling beans and freezing them. It also means getting the first packages of wild boar meat which out hunting friends bring us. The beastlies are so numerous that they are getting out of hand and have been digging up the roots of our olive trees, tearing down rock walls to get the grubs and bulbs and generally wreaking havoc all over. The yearly cull this year has been raised because there are so many...other than that? Just enjoying the cool weather and praying that Mother Nature sends us the much needed rain we've been waiting on...
you can check out the olive grove here:

don't know if I could put a piece of my blog here but I know that a lot of folks don't know anything about life in the country in Italy....hope you all don't mind. P
I would LOVE to find out how life is in the country in Italy!
I will pray for you to receive rain as well!
Here in Southeast Idaho I get to see the snow in the mountains already. That is a BEAUTIFUL site! There are elk, moose, bears, mountain lions, and other amazing mountain animals here that I would never get to see in Indiana. Living in the mountains is a different life than living in the Midwest. I am sure that time will bring with it a love for the fall here. I love the cooler days and much colder nights here in Idaho! We just pulled the last bit of our garden last night and the smell of the cool earth and the big pines that surround our home was a great memory builder. I am sure in time I will grow to love the fall here as much as I loved fall in Indiana...
I hope all stay safe, well, prosperous, and loved!
