Team Indy recap

As some of you probably gathered from the Facebook postings last week I enjoyed a bit more time with my Indianapolis crew. Thanks to the grand planning of our week’s emcee, Indy Swappers host, Suzanne, it was another action-packed week with friends I can’t believe I’ve only met once before. It was also my Gram’s (Bertha Burnham from the book) 86th birthday; my mama made us all converge on Indy with her master flight mileage coordination.

The week was off to a great start with a warm welcome from Big Hat Books in Broad Ripple, thanks Liz!

The following night I hosted my first ever Green Your Cleaning Cabinet workshop. It was a hit thanks to an amazing group in the class. It was such an honor to be the very first in Homespun Workshops & Gallery space; I loved meeting new Homespun fans and seeing a few familiar, friendly faces in the crowd.

The following night we revisited City Market and the urban farm boys that comprise Fermenti Artisan. Suzanne took fabulous photos of the night; check ‘em out here! The guys demo’ed a fermented carrot ginger slaw in their 20 litre crock, and I took it down in scale about 20 notches with my quart-jar crock. I managed to snap this, a fast-forward to early and late summer’s bounty, leaving folks with a recipe for my fermented green zebras.

The next day I bumbled around in Suzanne’s backyard. Admiring the second round of spring I got to admire, traveling back in time from where we stand in Austin’s spring/early summer progress.

A friend suggested that these are Korean Dogwood blooms because they stand up off the branches. And appropriately, that’s Dharma in the background. She likes bumbling, too.

Hydrangeas billowing over the fence. (Sigh, flower lust.)

Magic. Spring is pure magic.

The trip culminated in a potluck with Indy Food Swappers and a spring/general garden chat with Cara Dafforn of U-Relish farm. A lovely evening, which even included the famed radish dip I’ve heard about from numerous people (and more than my fair share of eating it) and the fabulous conversation and company of a whole slew of Katie’s (including the Katy who wrote this piece about food swapping in NUVO).

Thank you Indy for such a lovely time!
