Canning fancy giveaway: Riverdog Prints

This spring, as I was packing my suitcase full of jams, pickles and preserves, heading out to the West coast for book tour events, Cyn sent me a tweet @reply to the photo of 15 jars stacked tall in my suitcase. She mentioned that my jars looked a bit naked and she had just the thing for me. A couple weeks later, when I returned home, I found a little envelope of wonderful in my mailbox. Cyn owns Riverdog Prints, an eco-friendly, sustainable paper/packaging & pet-partnered print and card shop.

I fell in love her tags (which can be sticky or not, depending on your preferred jar labeling tactic); I used up my little round inserts nearly right away. I’ve coveted and squirreled away my little rectangular gift tags.

When I met her IRL in Northampton MA (she drove in from CT!), Cyn was kind enough to offer two of my blog readers sampling of her canning labels and tags. Even non-canners can enjoy these, since she has cute tags that are blank and will hang from any kind of gift pack you create.

I bought a stack of labels from Riverdog last year for the decorating portion of a canning party/tutorial, and they were a hit! Very pretty. I was sad I only had half a sheet left!

This year, I'm giving away cocoa molasses toffee, pistachio brittle aaaaaaaand cranberry pear preserves. :)

I'm diving into the land of preserves this season. Money is tight, but I wanted a little something to give to everybody, so marmalades and butters it is! Vanilla, anise and clementine marmalade inspired by my sweet friend, Anna, and a rosemary apple butter in honor of my boyfriend's Dad are the recipes I've chosen. These little tags would be a wonderful finishing touch. Wish me luck!

Last year I started a tradition with a friend: 8-10 straight hours of baking gourmet vegan cookies, packing them in gorgeous little boxes and having a few drinks along the way ;)
I can't wait to do this with her again this year!

This year I'm making the women in my family a Mocha-Frappuccino Facial Mask & Scrub from Cruchy Betty's blog and the guys are getting homemade BBQ towels for the grill and possibly a homemade spice-rub for meats. We always do a stocking stuffer exchange with the adults in the family with a limit of $5. Every year I find homemade gifts are the way to go... inexpensive, thoughtful and useful. These tags/labels would be perfect for the facial mask and spice-rub jars! =)

I don't know if my post took or not. I don't see it. I made dilly beans, pickles and cake in a jar. I bought some cute baskets at Michaels to put them in as gifts. I can't wait to put them together. I'm also making cookies and pecan pralines to include in the baskets.

I participated in a food swap just yesterday! The most popular item I made was Peppermint Hot Fudge... I brought 12 jars and I couldn't keep track of where they all went they were gone so fast! So, I will be sticking with that for gifts this year.....

This year is all about syrup!
I plan on making an earl grey tea syrup (which I'm modifying from a recipe I found at Snowflake kitchen via Punk Domestics http://snowflakekitchen.wordpress.com/2011/11/02/reflections-take-two-pears-in-tea-syrup/) and I'm also going to try a coffee-flavored syrup/Kahlua type syrup. Im going to pair each little jar of syrup with a mini bottle or two of whiskey/ other kind of liquor with a few cocktail ideas written on an index card.

I've done dilly beans, garlic pickles and my grandmother's refrigerator pickles for gifts. Lots of jam. For the beer lover guys in my family...guiness mustard and winter ale mustard. I picked up blocks of beeswax at the farmers market to do lotion for the ladies... I don't buy anything with palm oil (also called sodium laurel sulfate) since the palm oil plantations in Indonesia are the biggest issue with the killing of orangutans and distruction of rainforest

How exciting! For X-Mas (and Hanukkah!) this year, my boyfriend and I are planning to make infused liquors in jars, as well as 'ready-to-bake' cookie dough using wholesome ingredients - and especially gluten-free and dairy-free for those in my family with allergies. Our liquor ideas are vanilla bean & cacao vodka, orange ginger vodka, and cinnamon pear bourbon. Cookies will range from ginger snap to carob mint chip! Everything will come in sealed jars, and we're looking for a special way to label everything :)

I will be making yummy rosemary shortbread cookies that the family loves. I use fresh rosemary from my plant that has been producing for me these last two years. My sister loves these cookies because they are just the perfect amount of sweetness (mild) for those not so sweet, sweet-tooths. They go great with hot chocolate, hot tea, or hot toddies. :) I also hope to make homemade dog biscuits for all the dog lovers in our lives, and there are a lot of the them! Ho..ho..homemade is fantastic fun!!

Since my Sweetheart is unemployed this Christmas, we are watching it close, but having friends and family in for a meal is how we have chosen to celebrate a homemade Christmas....candlelight, a lovely eal that everyone contributes to, and watching our children's eyes light up with the tree.
