Ball® Brand Home Canning Equipment Giveaway

Disclosures: Jarden Home Brands sent me each of the giveaway items noted below at no cost to me and will ship the winner’s kit directly to them at their own expense. My opinions on the product are not influenced by this gift.

This year Jarden Home Brands launched the third appliance in its FreshTECH family. The new FreshTECH Electric Water Bath Canner + Multi-Cooker is a plug-in, countertop appliance that eliminates the need for stove top heating. This removes the concerns of ceramic-glass stove top owners and makes it more convenient to handle than traditional water bath canning pots. The appliance enables users to multi-task during the canning process, eliminating the need to monitor boiling water or move the pot to fill and drain.

So, I know you’re thinking oh, another fairly narrow-use appliance… I certainly had that thought initially, but now that I’ve pulled it out and really explored all of the possibilities, I see that this device is essentially a more versatile version of a crock pot that allows you to actually waterbath can in addition to all the slow cooking you might want to do. The pot’s size is also quite handy for the larger soups and stock batches that won’t fit in your standard crock pot.

Plus, there’s a spigot which eliminates the majority of the lifting and pouring you need to do to get water or stock out of the pot when finished. I also plan to use this as our mulled wine or mulled cider vessel for our annual holiday party. No more sticky goo all over the kitchen stove as people try to ladle out festive warm beverages.

Beyond the electric canner, Jarden Home Brands is offering up a Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving and a case of regular mouth pint jars!

Info from Ball Home Canning: The new 37th edition of the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving is the most trusted resource in home canning for over 100 years and this new 2015 release is its largest update since the first edition in 1909. Expanding 56% from the previous edition, the 37th edition of the Ball Blue Book includes 75 new recipes, pictorial step by step guides for beginners and more!

If by #canitforward they mean give my brother, my nephews, my mother-in-law and my brother-in-law all jars and jars of marvelous jam; then yes I do.

I make a Blackberry/Lemon/Vanilla Bean/Turbinado Sugar Jam that is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. You should try it because the wow factor is pretty high with this one. Be sure to put in some Lemon Zests along with the juice of two Lemons, use real Turbinado Sugar and use a real Whole Vanilla Bean for each pot - scraping the seeds into your mixture and cooking with the pod in there - then removing that. People really flip for this.

This summer I am canning a lot of low sugar or no sugar recipes using that version of pectin I just discovered. So far I've done blueberry, cherry, strawberry, hot pepper and sweet pickles. Peaches later this week.

My grandmother no longer has the energy to do her own canning so everything I make I share with her.
