Tattler BPA-free canning lids giveaway
This is the season of giveaways here at HGGH. Don’t forget to enter to win Ashley English’s Pie book (before Aug 27!).
After hearing great reviews from friends and fellow bloggers, I’m excited to work with Tattler and share these lids with you. I received two packages of lids earlier this year, one wide-mouth and one regular-mouth, and have been using them for the past few months with much success.
The method for using these lids is just about the same as using the other one piece lids, with a few slight changes due to the non-metallic nature of them (i.e. no lid lifters!)
I found that wearing my handy gloves and using tongs solved the issues. Gloves are definitely not required, but you’ll need to fit the rubber ring onto the grooves of the white lid before placing it on the jar and you simmer the lid and rubber ring, as you do with regular lids, prior to sealing so they might be warm upon fishing them out of the water.
It’s also a good idea to stick the rubber rings sandwiched between each of the lids for ease in fishing them out, otherwise you end up with a clump of rings stuck together on the bottom of the pot.
The only other major difference between these lids and regular metal lids is that you need to tighten the metal bands after the jars come out of the waterbath or pressure canner to ensure a seal.
Exchanging pings for a BPA-free canned good is a good trade off in my book.
For more information on BPA in canning, Linda Ziedrich wrote on her blog a fine post detailing the issues at hand with and how to avoid BPA-tainting your home canned goods. Read up on minimizing your exposure in general and some things to avoid when using regular canning lids.
Ordering directly from Tattler means you’ll likely end up with way more lids than you had in mind. Many retailers are starting to carry them, but consider pulling together a group order if you can’t find them near you. Splitting a case with 10 people is a great way to save money and spread the BPA-free love.
Since I’m sending them to you myself, I have to restrict to US & Canada only. Sorry international loves. Please enter by September 6, midnight CST by leaving a comment below telling me about what foods in jars you hope to put a lid on this fall.

Thanks everyone for your patience. Out of 265 eligible entries, Random.org selected lucky number 169!
Congrats to Deb N of Daytona Beach, FL, the proud new owner of two packages of Tattler reuseable canning lids.

I'm looking forward to canning apple butter and cranberry jam.
Well, in all honesty I do not can. However I use mason jars of various sizes daily for just about everything. I'd like to turn my daughter on to these as she is heavily into canning and is moving in the health conscious direction. She would love these.
I can't wait to can up some apple pie filling! Pumpkin butter, and all sorts of pickled things like garlic, greenbeans, and of course cukes. :)
I love canning during the summer. The kitchen smells great, and nothing is better in the fall than stone fruit chutneys. I would love to have these lids!
Applesauce of course. Mmm.
Applesauce + pearsauce for sure. If the fall tomato crop comes through (please!) there will be those to can, as well.
I have heard so much about the Tattler BPA free lids and would love to use them to store my medicinal tinctures in! I'm just beginning to make these medicinal concoctions and am excited about using the knowledge to introduce more medicinal herbs into my jams and jellies! Food for life, for sure!
Tomato jam!
I want to try canning tomato sauce and ketchup!!!
I plan on canning lots and lots of applesauce for vegan baking purposes. And I definitely will be canning cranberry jam for thanksgiving giveaways.
Hoping to still get some marinara sauce and roasted tomatoes done. Then going to try applesauce for the first time. I'd love to try the tattler lids out.
I want to try canning carrots with the Tattler lids this fall. I have not yet canned carrots.
If I can get my hands on some good apples, I'd like to put up some apple butter and applesauce.
I'd love to try these cool lids! I just canned Hawaiian Cowboy Candy (that's pickled jalapenos with pineapple), and ready to move on to apple butter.
I hope to put up some tomatoes and some jam.
I just went CRAZY trying to find BPA-free lids for my blueberry jam! Luckily, I still have peaches, zucchini salsa & spaghetti sauce to can & now know what to order!
Apple butter. Lemon vanilla jam. tomatoes. carrot cake jam. I have a lot to do before this baby comes!!! oh! And sauer kraut!
I bought a box of these a month or two ago and like them pretty well -- I did have a couple not seal, but most of them worked fine.
And I am getting two pecks of tomatoes this weekend to can some delicious sauce!
squash, melon, tomatoes, pickles, lots of other stuff - I usually get inspired at the farmer's market or supermarket!
I have a full case of peaches in my kitchen waiting to be canned at this very moment. They won't wait for jar lids to come in the mail though, so I will likely use these for Million Dollar relish. My grandmother used to make it and my sister and I are hoping to recreate it, though we don't have her recipe and are only beginner canners. It will be an adventure, I am sure.
I'm planning on apples and pears, bbq sauce and blackberry jam to name a few. I'd love to try these!
Jams!
I'm so glad you posted this!! I'm planning to can tomatoes and applesauce.
I read about this method of canning where you cook zucchini in vinegar bath for approx 5 minutes. Then you stuff as many you can vertically in the jar and top with olive oil. With the acid and oil to inhibit bacteria and oxygen, these cans do not need to be dunked in a hot water bath. I'm itching to try this method. The source is from:

I'm really hoping to get some applesauce in jars this year and with any luck chicken soup!
